The St. Lawrence River has played a leading role in the history of the Côte-du-Sud area. This is apparent in the wide array of activities, attractions and events awaiting visitors every year. The littoral zone of this region is dotted with numerous islands, including Île aux Grues and Grosse-Île. The area's mud flats provide a sanctuary for birds, especially for snow geese. To the south, the Appalachian Mountains are a true paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, who can enjoy several recreational facilities.
